A Still Life for Generation X.
Inspired by the still life paintings of the Dutch Golden Age - the impossible arrangements of Rachel Ruysch and Jan Van Huysum, the detailed and dynamic tabletops of Willem Claesz Heda, the vanitas themes of Pieter Claesz -
"Remember You Must" replaces the objects of wealth and symbols of decadence of the 17th century Low Countries with coveted children's toys from the 1980's. The result are still life works that may readily speak to my generation - as totally rad explorations of desire, nostalgia, consumerism and reminders of the transience of life.
